AC repair in San Mateo County

AC blowing warm? Let's find out why.

A repair visit runs from diagnosis to fix: we test the system, find the part that failed and repair it. On the Peninsula that is most often a refrigerant leak, a dirty or iced coil, a blocked condensate drain or a failed capacitor.

What a repair visit covers

An AC that runs but doesn't cool, short-cycles, ices over or leaks water is telling you something specific. The visit is about finding that one thing, not swapping parts until it works.

  1. You tell us what it's doing

Warm air, a new noise, ice on the copper line, water by the indoor unit, a breaker that keeps tripping. The more you can describe, the faster the diagnosis.

  2. We test the whole system

Electrical parts first, then refrigerant pressures and temperatures, the coils, the condensate drain and the airflow through the filter and ducts.

  3. We repair the part that failed

A capacitor, a contactor, a cleared drain, a cleaned coil, a found and fixed leak: the repair goes at the cause, not the symptom.

  4. We run it and check it cools

The system runs through a full cycle before we leave, with the readings checked again.

The faults we see most on the Peninsula

  • Refrigerant leaks. Low refrigerant isn't used up, it escapes. Topping it up without finding the leak only buys time.
  • Dirty or iced coils. A clogged evaporator coil can freeze solid; a dirty outdoor coil can't shed heat. Either way the house stays warm.
  • Blocked condensate drains. Water backs up into the indoor unit or the ceiling, and many systems shut themselves off when the drain pan fills.
  • Failed capacitors. The outdoor fan or compressor hums but won't start. It's a common fault and usually a quick repair.

Is it worth repairing an older AC, or should I replace it?

If the fault is a part like a capacitor, a contactor or a blocked drain, repair almost always makes sense, whatever the age of the system.

It's worth pricing a replacement when the compressor has failed, when the system needs refrigerant again and again, or when one repair follows another. A new outdoor unit brings its own rules, and in some Peninsula cities that means a heat pump instead of a new AC.

Either way, we'll tell you what failed and what the choice is, so you can decide.

How do I stop it happening again?

Most of the faults above build up slowly: a coil that clogs over a season, a drain that slimes over, a capacitor that weakens. A tune-up before summer catches them while they are still cheap.

Tell us what it's doing. We'll take it from there.
