How do I apply for an HVAC permit in Redwood City?

Online. The city says it is now only accepting electronic permit and plan applications, through its eTRAKiT portal. Paper and counter submittals are not how it works any more.

Have the equipment details and plans ready as files before you start.

Do you work on commercial HVAC and rooftop units in Redwood City?

Yes. Redwood City has businesses as well as homes, and we do commercial HVAC repair, installation, maintenance and rooftop unit repair and replacement, including VRF and VRV systems.

Tell us the building, what the unit does and what it's doing wrong, and we'll say what a visit involves.

Does Redwood City have its own heat pump rebate?

Yes. The city runs its own Building Electrification Rebate Program for heat pumps. Confirm eligibility first: call Redwood City Public Works at (650) 780-7464 before you buy and install, then send in the application with your receipts and the required documents.

Eligibility comes first, so make that call before the equipment is ordered.

Is there a rebate for a heat pump in Redwood City?

Yes, from Peninsula Clean Energy, which serves all of San Mateo County, Redwood City included. Its current terms pay $1,500 per heat pump condensing unit, or packaged unit, that replaces a gas heater or furnace, with a limit per electric account.

The rebate covers any fully electric system, ducted or ductless. A hybrid dual-fuel system, a heat pump with gas backup heat, does not qualify.
