  1. Placement

Where can outdoor HVAC equipment go in Woodside?

Mind the front line. Woodside counts mechanical equipment within 50 feet of the front property line (30 feet in the R-1 Zone) as an entry feature, like gates and lighting, and every entry feature goes to Conceptual Design Review with the Architectural and Site Review Board.

Set further back, the unit isn't an entry feature. That is worth deciding before the equipment is ordered.

  2. Inspection

    When does Woodside inspect?

Afternoons only: the time window is 1 to 4:30 pm. Inspections are first come, first served, and the town asks for them to be scheduled 72 hours in advance.

Construction hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturday 8 am to 1 pm, with no work on Sundays or town holidays.

  3. Before work

What has to be posted before work starts in Woodside?

The town's Building in Horse Country poster, printed in 11 by 17 format, in English and in Spanish, posted at the job site before work starts. It goes up before the first tool comes out.

  4. Permit

Can the HVAC permit be pulled online in Woodside?

Yes. Woodside's eTRAKiT takes applications and payment for an HVAC system permit online; additions, exterior remodels and new structures still go to the Building Department by email.

Anything submitted from January 1, 2026 is held to the 2025 California Code of Regulations, Title 24.

  5. Rebate

Does the heat pump rebate care how efficient the system is?

WestLight Energy's doesn't. Every fully electric heat pump system qualifies regardless of type, configuration, amperage, tonnage or efficiency rating. Only dual-fuel systems with gas heat as backup are left out.
