HVAC in Los Altos, California
Heat pump rebate in Los Altos? Apply first.
Los Altos homeowners get their heat pump rebate from Silicon Valley Clean Energy, and the application goes in before the equipment does. The rebate also needs the old gas appliance gone.
Do I apply for the SVCE heat pump rebate before or after installing?
Before. Los Altos is one of Silicon Valley Clean Energy's member communities, and SVCE says to apply for your rebate before the appliance is installed.
If you had an emergency replacement and couldn't apply in advance, contact SVCE and say on the application that it was an emergency replacement.

Can I keep my gas furnace and still get the Los Altos rebate?
No. SVCE's agreement says you must remove the original gas appliance if you upgrade to a heat pump HVAC system to receive the rebate, and that dual fuel sources void qualification.
So a hybrid system, a heat pump with a gas furnace kept as backup, can't claim it. If you want the rebate, the heat pump has to be the whole system.
