Emergency
You smell gas.
Don't look for the leak, and don't call us first. Get out, then call. PG&E's steps are below.
First
Leave the house.
Once you're outside, call 911. Then PG&E.
Do this now
Leave first. Call from outside.
-
Leave the area now
Take everyone with you, pets too.
-
Call 911
Once you're away from the house.
-
Then call PG&E
PG&E's number for this is 1-800-743-5000.
-
Wait for the all clear
The gas company or the fire department finds the source, shuts off the gas, airs out the house and tells you when it's safe to go back in.

Repairs inside the house are yours to arrange
Trane notes the homeowner is responsible for repairs to any gas line or valve inside the home, and that an HVAC professional or a plumber can handle them.
If you shut the gas off yourself, PG&E has to restore it: call 1-800-743-5000.
If the leak was at the furnace, have it checked before it runs again.
